Technical Guidance

The Innovation Network is a European Regional Development Funded (ERDF) project and as such it comes with rules and regulations. Please read the following guidelines and ensure you comply.

If you have any queries about this information please contact one of our brokers using the contact form.

Procurement of Services and Goods

The Innovation Network Grant is funded by tax payers and as a result there are strict rules on how that money can be spent.

You will be asked to follow a “tender” process based on the size of each contract that forms part of your overall project.

The thresholds and procedure to follow can be seen in a report that you will be asked to submit.

It can be downloaded by clicking here

State Aid

It is a requirement of the European Structural Funds regulations that we ensure we comply with the State Aid Rules. You are required to declare what State Aid you have previously received and which Articles the State Aid was awarded under. If you are not sure if you have previously received State Aid, then please contact the organisation from which the assistance was received.

The Innovation Network Project that you are applying for is covered by the following GBER Articles originating from the General Block Exemption regulation (Commission Regulation (EU) No 651/2014 of 17 June 2014) (“GBER”):

  • Article 18 (the English Aid for SMEs State Aid)
  • Article 25 (The English Research, Development and Innovation State Aid Scheme – Aid for research and development projects)
  • Article 28 (The English Research, Development and Innovation State Aid Scheme – Innovation Aid for SMEs)
  • Article 29 (The English Research, Development and Innovation State Aid Scheme – Aid for process and organisational innovation)

Mini and Maxi Grants

What is the process?

  • Meet one of our brokers to outline your project. You can apply for a “Mini” grant or a “Maxi” grant or both.
  • Mini Grant: If your project is accepted, you will receive a Grant Approval Letter and you decide who you wish to work with.  You will work with your chosen Knowledge Base Partner and scope out the project, agree the costs and timelines and submit to one of our Brokers.  They will issue a Grant Offer Letter outlining the Terms and Conditions.  Once you accept, you start the work and we will fund up to 80% of a £3,000 project ( 50% if you chose a commercial organisation).
  • Maxi Grant: If your project is accepted, you will be invited to present in front of a panel.  If the project is awarded the funding, you will be issued with a Grant Approval Letter.  You will work with your chosen Knowledge Base Partner and scope out the project, agree the costs and timelines and submit to one of our Brokers.  They will issue a Grant Offer Letter, outlining the Terms and Conditions.  Once you accept, you start the work and we will fund up to 49% of a £50,000 project.
